Which Is More Vulgar?
65There is much controversy over 2 advertisement posters in Singapore. One is Abercrombie & Fitch's poster, four storey sized, placed across a busy street in Singapore. The advertisement shows the model pushing down his low slung jeans, revealing his chest and torso. It is said that the ad has breach the Singapore's Code of Advertising Practice. The local authorities has since contacted the American clothing brand and is awaiting response.
There are mixed reactions among Singaporeans.
“(It’s) a bit daring, but it doesn’t really bother me because I would just laugh at it,” said the mother of two, acknowledging at the same time that her friends would probably feel embarrassed if they were to see it."
“I suppose it is in our culture (to be conservative), though, because if my in-laws see this, they will peng san (faint),” she added.
“It’s quite awful,” he said, noting that as an Asian society, Singaporeans are not ready for such explicit images. “We are open, but I don’t think we’re ready for that extent of openness… perhaps two or three generations down the road might be fine with it, but not us.”
"No big deal, come'on, it is creative and it does not reveal any body parts!"
Another ad in the controversy is by the company Strip: Ministry of Waxing. It is plastered on the lamp posts, streets and in shopping malls. As you can see, the poster seems to point at a particular female anatomy.
So, hubbers, which do you think is more indecent!

Wow! Very interesting stuff, great hub! I don't know how I particularly feel about either, the only thing that might bother me is looking at it from a childs perspective. On the A&F ad anybody can clearly look at that and know that is a human being and at what is being hinted. On the ad with the display as purse, children or gullible adults even may look at that and see nothing more than an actual purse. So it's a toss up for me. I can certainly see why some are offended though. It almost makes you think about how much we are exposed to on a daily basis and that things just don't affect or bother us any longer. 50 years ago in America an ad like either of these would have created an incredible amount of controversy. Today it's almost like the status quo to see who can be the most inappropriate and get away with it. Either way I enjoyed reading this and found it very well written and super interesting. Thanks for sharing! Voted up/awesome/interesting.
